Our number one goal with our clients is to provide meaningful conversation. We’re going to spend time with you. You’re going to get quality work. You’re going to get value. You’re going to see your business way differently than you ever have seen it. We explain to them how the cash flow works, how their basis works, and we tie it all together. And when they start to understand it, there is no better feeling in accounting than seeing somebody who is a business owner understanding how the business works.
We feel like fellow business owners, you know, so it’s their company, but the more we sit in that room, we’re an extended part of that company. We definitely work on a large relationship focus, so we’re not working with clients and saying drop your stuff off in February and cross your fingers and get you know a surprise in March or April with tax returns. We’re working with our clients throughout the year. We’re vested in their success just as much as they are. Here we work as a team so that clients know that they have someone they can reach out to anytime with any questions they have. So whether it be an accounting specialist or a tax specialist, they’re getting a team of individuals to support all of their needs.
I’m excited to see how our team is going to continue to grow. We’ve got lots of big plans ahead, and I appreciate and really enjoy watching Nicole grow the firm even further than she already has. I’m so excited about the direction we’re headed in and I’m so excited about the team we have, and I love the clients we have to work with and know we’re gonna do amazing things moving forward.
My background with dental offices actually comes from the fact that my dad was a dentist. So when I walk into a client’s office, it just brings back a lot of childhood memories for me. Because of our knowledge in the dental industry, we can talk about dental industry metrics. Because we understand those details, we can take that into our client meetings and help the dentist to work that information into the bottom line. Is my hygiene production where it needs to be? Is my associate compensation where it needs to be? What does my overhead look like? What’s the industry’s overhead look like?
From those conversations, we help create goals that are specialized to that particular dental office. We use those goals, and that’s the information we use to have every follow-up meeting. Those are the goals we’re going for.
I remember a particular conversation my dad and I had driving to work one day and he was listening to some radio station and they were talking about how if you buy this piece of equipment for a thousand dollars then you can deduct it and you know you’re going to save four hundred dollars by buying that piece of equipment and I remember listening and looking at him and saying I’m confused why would you buy a thousand dollar piece of equipment just to get a deduction of $400. Aren’t you still out $600?”
He looked at me and laughed and said, I like the way that you think of the numbers.
I love offering flexibility to the team members of Thousand CPA because the one thing we know is that not everyone is in the same place in life. I have a very large family, and I’ve been able to maintain my job and have the flexibility to be there for my family and make them come first. They understand that things come up, families are really first here, and work is second. Families don’t stop during tax season. You can spend that time with your family and not feel bad about it, you know, oh, I kind of cut my Friday short.
Nicole really believes in that, and I think it comes from the top down. Everyone she hires also believes in that, so I think it’s just ingrained in our culture. Spring Break is something that, being in a CPA firm, you just don’t get to go because it’s right when tax season is happening. And I just think that’s silly because not everyone has the same spring break. Not everyone even has a spring break yet. So to me, having the flexibility for them to have that time with their family lets them enjoy what they do because they don’t feel like they’re having to make choices.
